10 TV Shows You Should Binge Watch Right Now

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a pretty big TV person. I love finding new movies and shows to binge watch. In college, most of my Sundays were spent in bed doing just this.

Once we moved to New York, I didn’t get to binge watch too many shows because I had a full-time job. And on the weekends, we would either be out enjoying ourselves, or at the apartment together. My husband doesn’t share my love of Netflix and all things binge-worthy, but he will sit down for a series he’s interested in.

Lucky for me, I work from home (haha, I can’t really say that anymore). I mean, I’m totally transitioning into a SAHM a little early…nesting anyone!? BUT…even when I was working a legitimate job from home, I would find time to squeeze in some shows between work. It’s all about balance, right?

Over the past few years, I’ve had lots of time to watch a lot of shows, and I wanted to share some of my favorites. If you’re looking for a Netflix marathon, or just something to watch here and there, I’ve got you covered!

1. One Tree Hill

Ok, I know this one is so high school, and I did actually start watching it in high school haha! Anddd fun fact, my senior quote came from the theme song by Gavin DeGraw. How cute. But it is one of my all-time favorites. I re-watched it when we moved to Montana, and I loved it just as much as I did back then! If you’re in your 30’s and haven’t heard of this one, maybe you’ve been living under a rock. 😬 If you haven’t seen it, I would definitely add it to your list. I may even add it to my list of things to watch again when I’m super pregnant and don’t want to leave my couch!

Read about our pregnancy journey here!

The short and sweet: It follows a group of friends through high school, college and starting families. Lots of high school drama – relationships, friendships, family.

I really think you won’t regret it, so give it a shot if you’re looking for something to binge watch. It’s quite the commitment at 9 seasons!

Watch on Hulu

2. Grey’s Anatomy

This one is a little more grown up but still plenty of drama! I feel like people either love this one or hate it. It’s another one of my favorites, but I do think they are dragging it on a little too long. There’s a current season on right now! I also watched this one beginning to end when we moved to Montana, before I had a job. It had been so long since I watched it, I didn’t even remember most of the episodes. The early seasons were the best, and if you’re still watching like I am, I think you might agree. I know you’ve heard of this one, but if you haven’t watched it yet, it’s a great one to binge watch!

The short and sweet: Follow a group of interns as they work their way towards becoming doctors in Seattle. PLENTY of relationship drama and drama in general.

This one is a SERIOUS commitment, as they are currently on season 15. Holy cow!

Watch on Netflix and Hulu!

3. Parenthood

Ahhh, Parenthood. I don’t know how it took me so long to hear about this one, but I’ve already watched the whole series twice since we’ve been in Montana. That’s twice in 3 years 😂 Something about this one just pulls you in and makes you feel like you’re part of the family. I love everything about this show, and the actors and actresses are just the icing on the cake. Have some tissues handy if you’re going to watch it. I remember crying during many episodes! I HIGHLY recommend this one!

The short and sweet: It’s about a family – Mom, Dad, 2 brothers, 2 sisters (and their families) – living in California. They are a very close family, lots of drama and issues, but so sweet and so loving.

I’m telling you…go watch this one NOW!

Watch on Netflix

4. True Detective – Seasons 1 and 3

When I’m not watching high school shows or family drama, I love a good crime/detective show! Season 1 is one of mine and hubby’s favorite shows we’ve ever watched. A little twisty, but Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson did such a good job in this show! Save your time and just skip right over season 2. I have no idea what they were thinking on that one, but I’m pretty sure we quit watching like halfway through. They redeemed themselves with season 3, which is currently playing. Only one episode left, and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

The short and sweet: Season 1 and 3 are pretty similar, trying to get to the bottom of a murder. The show goes back and forth between present day and past, with everyone kind of recounting their story of what happened.

If you like detective shows, I always recommend this to everyone!

5. Game of Thrones

fun fact: I saw him walking down the street when we lived in NYC! No, I didn’t talk to him, I was too nervous! 😂

We got started on this series one weekend in New York. I think we watched an entire season in one weekend and got every meal delivered to our apartment (one of the things I actually miss about NYC, so many delivery options). Not gonna like, it was a pretty perfect weekend!

This one is perfect to binge watch because with the amount of time they make you wait between seasons, you forget everything that happened before that. I’m not huge on these kind of shows, but I did really like this one. I think I liked it better in the beginning, but we’re gonna finish it out strong with the 8th and final season coming in April! I honestly feel like I need to re-watch season 7 and potentially season 6 as well. 😬

The short and sweet: I don’t even know if there is a short version of this, you kind of need to try it out and see what you think. People either love or hate it. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be super confused in the beginning, and you need to give it all your attention to keep up with all the story lines! It’s pretty violent, but it’s a great show!

Hurry up and start watching now so you’ll be ready for season 8 in April!

6. Stranger Things

I remember everyone talking about this one, and I was like, “Nope, not my cup of tea.” Sci-fi is not my thing, at all. I find anything to do with aliens or extraterrestrial stuff to be kind of stupid, honestly. BUT, we decided to give it a try anyway, and I’m so glad we did! I know for a fact we finished the first season in 2 days. It definitely keeps you hooked. I liked season 1 better than season 2, but they were both good!

The short and sweet: A group of kids find a way into another dimension, so to speak, and things get real weird from there. It ends up being some sort of government conspiracy and gets pretty crazy.

There are only two seasons so far, but a third is in the works. I’m still surprised I actually enjoyed this one, so I’d add it to your list!

7. A Million Little Things

I think I’m a little late to the game on this one, but I just started watching it. Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant and overly emotional, but I’ve been crying through the show since episode 1! It might be a little sensitive for some people (suicide, cancer, cheating, divorce), but I really like it so far.

The short and sweet: Hard to give a short and sweet on this one without giving the show away. Very emotional, lots going on in each person’s life.

This one is currently on, so be careful of spoilers on TV! If you like shows that are little more emotional and raw, it’s a good one.

Watch on Hulu and abc

8. Dirty John

My friends had been telling about this one because they listened to the podcast. No matter how hard I try, I just don’t think I’m a podcast kind of girl. I’ve always enjoyed movies over books, so it’s no surprise that I just waited until the show came out to watch it. This one is nuts and based on a true story, which makes it even better (um, worse?). I watched this one each week as it came on but wish I would have waited until all episodes were released. Every episode just left me hanging, and I wanted to know what happened next so badly! Lucky for you, it’s now on Netflix!

The short and sweet: Woman meets boyfriend, boyfriend is crazy (you see this in episode 1, so I’m not giving too much away), things escalate.

With only eight episodes, this one will be a quick “binge watch,” but grab a glass of wine and dive right in. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

9. Breaking Bad

I feel like it’s been forever since I watched this one, but I really liked it. It’s another one that I was kind of surprised I liked, and it took me a couple of episodes to get into it. I think what makes it good is that the main character is a seemingly “normal” guy doing bad things. And the amount of times he should have been caught is astronomical 😂

The short and sweet: High school teacher with a wife, kid and another on the way finds out some bad news. He’s financially unstable and makes the decision to start a meth lab. Everything goes wrong along the way. Haha, it sounds ridiculous, but it was a good show.

A good one to binge watch, but not TOO long, with only five seasons.

10. 13 Reasons Why

via GIPHY

This is another that might be a little sensitive for some people, but I thought the story line was really good for the most part. It really makes you think. We’ve all gone through high school and know there is no lack of bullying and shaming. At some point, I think we got a little irritated with the main character, but we watched both seasons, and I say give it a try.

The short and sweet: High school girl commits suicide, and everyone is left wondering why. The show follows her story of “why.”

Again, probably not for everyone. Serious and emotional but worth watching.

And there you have it! I personally enjoyed all of these, but they may not all be for you. Hopefully you can find a couple to get you through your next lazy weekend!
